Emerging investigator series: primary emissions, ozone reactivity, and byproduct emissions from building insulation materials
Environmental Science: Processes & Impacts
In: Environmental Science: Processes & Impacts, vol. 21, no. 8, pp. 1255–1267, 2019.
Editorial summary
Eight commercially available insulation materials were tested in a continuous-flow reactor for primary VOC emissions, ozone reaction probabilities and secondary gas-phase byproduct yields. Cellulose and fiberglass were among the more ozone-reactive materials, and ozone exposure produced aldehydes, acetone and other products that differed from the primary emissions. The paper compares some findings with earlier FLEC-cell studies of solid wood but does not use FLEC in its own experiments.
Editorial, non-verbatim summary based on the Royal Society of Chemistry article and its PubMed abstract.
FLEC use
FLEC mention, comparison or reference
The authors' measurements used a continuous-flow reactor. FLEC is mentioned in the discussion when methanol and acetic-acid observations are compared with prior FLEC-cell studies of solid wood.
