Application
Non-destructive on-site emission testing
Use FLEC® to sample emissions directly from installed floors, walls and ceilings while keeping the tested surface intact.
Measure where the material is installed
The compact FLEC Cell creates a controlled measurement area on a material surface. This makes it possible to investigate emissions in real buildings without removing a sample for chamber testing.
For vertical surfaces and ceilings, the FL-0210 FLEC Telescope Kit helps position the cell securely. A controlled supply of clean air and suitable pumps and sampling tubes complete the measurement setup.
Typical on-site applications
- Flooring and floor treatments
- Wall and ceiling finishes
- Paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants
- Source identification in occupied or newly completed buildings
A controlled on-site workflow
- Define the surface, measurement objective and target compounds.
- Position and seal the FLEC Cell without damaging the installed material.
- Supply clean, conditioned air and verify the required flows.
- Collect samples using suitable tubes and analyse them with the selected VOC or carbonyl method.
Interpret measurements in context
NT BUILD 484 treats on-site measurements as semiquantitative because conditions in buildings can be difficult to control. Record the surface, location, temperature, humidity and sampling conditions. A surface-emission result helps investigate a potential source; it does not by itself establish whole-room air quality or occupant exposure.
Relevant standards
NT BUILD 484 describes on-site measurements with FLEC. ISO 16000-10 and ASTM D7143 acknowledge on-site use in principle, but do not specify the field procedure. Select and document the complete sampling plan for the project.
