FLEC® equipment

FLEC® equipment for material emission testing

Explore instruments and accessories for investigating volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released from building materials, flooring, paints, coatings and other products. The FLEC range supports laboratory testing, non-destructive measurements on installed surfaces and production quality control.

At the centre of the system is the Field and Laboratory Emission Cell. Combined with controlled air supply and suitable sample preparation, it provides a defined environment for collecting emissions for subsequent chemical analysis. Choose the equipment below to configure a setup for your materials, sampling method and working environment.

The FL-0001 FLEC Cell is the starting point for a FLEC measurement setup. Its stainless-steel construction and polished internal surfaces help minimise interactions between the instrument and the compounds being sampled. The cell supports collection on one or two sampling tubes.

The FL-1000 FLEC Air Control 1000 supplies the cell with air at controlled flow and humidity. Connected to a suitable external air supply, it combines air filtration with adjustable mixing of dry and humidified air.

For measurements on walls and ceilings, the FL-0210 Telescope Kit holds the cell in position during sampling. For samples requiring additional chamber space, the FL-2001 and FL-2002 Sub-Units accommodate non-planar, porous, liquid or sticky materials. Both offer an adjustable chamber height of 0–100 mm. FL-2001 has a 150 mm internal diameter, while FL-2002 provides a 152 mm internal diameter to accommodate Petri dishes.

Consistent sample positioning and preparation help make emission measurements comparable. FLEC test plates and preparation tools allow different materials to be presented to the cell under defined conditions.

Carpet test plates accommodate samples up to 10 mm or 25 mm thick, with adapters for adjusting the sample height. Paint and coating test plates work with the application roller to prepare a defined exposed area and application thickness. The sealant test plate provides a smaller exposure area for materials with higher emissions.

The FL-0100 Recovery Measurement Test Kit supports checks of sampling recovery by comparing the amount of a reference compound evaporated with the amount collected.

Accessories

Keep your equipment ready for routine use with replacement sealing components, air filtration and protective storage. The accessory range includes a silicone O-ring for the FLEC Cell, a replacement charcoal filter for the air controller and a transport case for moving the cell between locations.

Choose equipment for your application

  • Laboratory testing: Configure the FLEC Cell with controlled air supply and suitable sample holders to investigate material emissions and compare samples under defined test conditions.
  • On-site investigations: Collect emissions directly from suitable installed surfaces, including floors, walls and ceilings. The telescope kit supports positioning where the cell cannot rest horizontally.
  • Production quality control: Incorporate material-emission measurements into a defined testing procedure to compare production samples and investigate changes in materials or surface treatments.

The appropriate configuration depends on the material, its surface and dimensions, the compounds of interest and the intended test method.

Test methods and product documentation

ISO 16000-10, ASTM D7143 and NT BUILD 438 provide frameworks for laboratory emission-cell testing. NT BUILD 484 describes on-site source investigation, where conditions can be harder to control. Visit our standards overview for specimen preparation, sampling and analytical methods.

Each product page provides technical information and a downloadable PDF product sheet. Our publications collection offers further examples of FLEC applications and research. Our 21-page CHEMATEC technical guide (revision 2.4) covers setup, sampling, leak testing, maintenance, quality assurance and emission calculations.
