Two model papers were artificially aged in closed tubes, after which a FLEC was placed directly on each sheet to collect VOCs non-destructively on DNPH silica and Tenax TA. Numerous degradation products were identified, and emissions of abundant compounds such as acetaldehyde, acetic acid, vanillin and furfural generally rose with ageing time.
