VOC uptakes on gypsum boards: Sorption performances and impact on indoor air quality

Editorial summary
This study compares how three gypsum boards take up toluene and formaldehyde under several indoor-relevant conditions. A FLEC-derived sorption procedure is used to determine partitioning coefficients and estimate useful uptake lifetimes, revealing strong effects of board formulation, VOC chemistry, the surface paper and humidity. The results indicate that sorptive gypsum boards still need improvement before they can make a substantial contribution to indoor-air quality.

FLEC use
FLEC method, modelling or validation
The publisher abstract makes development of the partition-coefficient methodology a primary contribution, and the ISTEX full-text index confirms FLEC in the article. The experimental setup is stated to build on the authors' previously validated FLEC-PTR-MS procedure, so method takes precedence over direct application.
