Environment-friendly adhesives for surface bonding of wood-based flooring using natural tannin to reduce formaldehyde and TVOC emission
Bioresource Technology
In: Bioresource Technology, vol. 100, no. 2, pp. 744 - 748, 2009, ISSN: 0960-8524.
Editorial summary
The study formulated natural wattle-tannin and PVAc hybrid adhesives for bonding decorative veneer to engineered flooring and assessed bonding performance and pollutant emissions. FLEC, a desiccator test and a VOC analyser showed acceptable formaldehyde grades with UV coating, while added PVAc slightly raised TVOC emissions.

FLEC use
Direct FLEC measurements
The authors explicitly used FLEC alongside a desiccator test and VOC analyser to determine formaldehyde and VOC emissions from the engineered-flooring specimens bonded with the candidate adhesives.
